AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE OF HOLISTIC MEDICINE: MEMBERS ASSOCIATION (ICHM)

The Association is a support group for complementary therapists, which was founded in 1992 as a non profit-making organisation. The rules and aims were adopted in December 2000 and supersede any previous rules, aims and objectives.

 

OBJECTIVES:

1) To present complementary therapies to the wider public.

2) To encourage professional working relationships between members.

3) To provide a Directory of Members, highlighting specific therapies and qualifications.

4) To promote complementary therapies to the National Health Service (UK).

5) To provide a pressure group, which can act as a unified body, to tackle issues such as Government regulation of products and services.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Category 1 - Full Membership.

Practitioners who are fully qualified in their respective disciplines and who are Registered members of the Association.

Category 2 - Affiliated Membership.

Those therapists who do not practice may apply to become members but do not qualify for inclusion in the Directory of Practitioners.

 


MEMBERSHIP RULES:

Each individual must abide by the code of ethics of his/her own organisation where applicable and include the following:

1) The Practitioner shall not treat any condition for which he/she is not professionally qualified to treat.

2) Mis-leading claims must not be made by any member as to the cure of specific illnesses or ailments.

3) Practitioners shall not use, or imply, titles suggesting medical qualifications unless they possess such qualifications.

4) Members may not diagnose client's illnesses; they may however, treat pre-diagnosed complaints, subject to a conventional medical practitioner's consent.

5) Members are not entitled to use ICHM letter headings.

 


SUBSCRIPTIONS:

1) The annual subscription shall be fixed anually. Renewel subscriptions are payable on the last day of the month, on the anniversary of joining.

2) Other fees may be decided as appropriate from time to time, subject to a month's due notice of same.

3) Members may be suspended or expelled from the Association if it is felt appropriate to do so, without explanation or reason being provided.
